Cranes at the sugar mill

Other than the truck platforms, cranes are another means of picking up large bundles of cane and putting it on the feeder belts...

Bright Moments

are easily distinguishable for the dark ones. Hope you have more of the bright ones!

Taking a weekend break from the Sugar Mill series... will get back to them Monday

Was Fire

Truckers and other people keeping themselves warm with the ashes of a wood fire... The sugar mill works 24X7 during season and such small fires are the only way to keep them warm in the cold and chilly north Indian weather during those months

People I meet...

An elderly gentleman I saw on the streets. Its very typical of UP (a state in India) to wear your Shawl (Stole/Woolen Sheet) like this... it serves the purpose to keep the head and the upper body warm... I can also see a gandhi topi (cap) that he was wearing...

I am surprised at myself for managing everything else but his face in focus... Don't know what I was trying to do... but did not want to lose this photograph because I like the play of shadows around his face...

People I meet

He was one of the many who was at the sugar mill early morning with his sugarcane crop. Queues which are a couple of kilometres long with 100s of Bullock Carts is not unusual for a sugar mill in UP, India... Coming early means that they can get free early as well

People I meet

He was one of the truck drivers at the Daurala Sugar Mill. Very calm and composed, with his eyes saying more than himself

Used and Abused...

I wonder at times, how in India, we keep reusing things... take for instance this CEAT tire which has been repaired using nuts and bolts for reuse.

It was a part of the rear axle which takes the maximum load in the truck, and this was a very smart thing to do... if because of the load, this one bursts, the other three would still manage a distance vs. a situation when this is a front tire and would cripple the truck till the replacement is arranged... street smartness! Did I hear someone saying Jugaad Technology?

Be the light...

when it starts getting dark!

This print has some obvious composition and print errors, however I still liked the position of the flower and some light on it.

A view from the Clingmans Dome, which is the highest peak in Smoky Mountains @ about 6500 ft from sea level...

Could have zoomed in and avoided that tree top, however chose not to for some reason.
